Rich Taylor of Boneyard Artillery

Here’s an interview from BYOB #7 in 2022

An ArtMartyr – In Memorial repost of his article in Issue #26.

When I first met Rich it was at BYOB Bring Your Own Boogie Van In and Show. He was displaying his t-shirts and artwork next to his ’64 Dodge Van that’s as cool as his drawings. In-fact he ended up drawing the artwork for the very next BYOB which was a record attendance event.

Definitely influenced by the master; Ed Big Daddy Roth as well as modern masters like Keith Weesner. From a can of spray paint to a fine ink pen, he gets the job done.

He just purchased a silkscreen press and is now printing his own shirts. That’s super cool that he actually makes each shirt.

A Southern California kid who graduated from Art Center College of Design and doing not only what he does best but what he was bred to do. Growing up on the west side, when he wasn’t surfing his dad took him to drag races, super cross events or they spent the day riding their Moto-X bikes at Indian Dunes Park.

Rich joined the Hollywood Can’t Be Stopped graffiti crew, and professionally painted murals for Conart Clothing.

He launched Boneyard Artillery at the 2015 Mooneyes X-Mas Party and now it is carried by Kools Clothing, Rip City Skates and Soundsation Records.

“The boneyard is where you find great used car/van parts and it is also the exposed part of the surf break that gets pounded at low-tide.

Anyway, you get it he is super talented and works hard at it too. You can’t miss his van. Damn, that van. Is kool. It’s a metallic avocado green 1964 Dodge A100 eight-door van known as the Green Ghost.

The van has a rebuilt 225 slant six with a four-barrel Offenhauser intake and Edelbrock Carburetor. He designed the lettering on the van and his buddy Smart Alex laid down the 1-Shot enamel and brought the custom paint to life.

Sadly we got word on June 28, 2023 that Rich passed away after complications from surgery for a blocked artery. Rest in peace my friend.
