ELVIS – John Gessner’s ’55 Chevy Truck

Elvis, a 1955 second series Chevy Truck

Like the name suggests this truck has had a pretty crazy past life. Once was a silver Big Block Chevy straight axle runner, it is now a street rod with a 350 Ram Jet, 4-speed and a new patina look.

John has had this truck for over 23 years tooling around town as a parts pickup for his shop A&J’s Southern Rod Shop in beautiful Mooresville, North Carolina. He kept the Saginaw 4-speed and Hurst shifter, a reliable pair to rip through the gears around the hills of the Carolinas.

The Camaro sub-frame, Fat Man 2″ drop spindles, Hotchkis lowering springs with ’79 Camaro front suspension and C-Notched frame with traction bars give it that bitchen stance. The Wheelsmith Rallye 15×7 and 15×10 wheels painted white wrapped in B.F. Goodrich rubber add to the nostalgic look.

The second series ’55 Chevy has had some bodywork done, most notably is the ’97 Cadillac rear tail lights. The rear fenders were shortened 3 inches and tubed to fit the S-10 metal floor replacing the wood slats. A custom roll pan, and barrel latched tailgate round out the rear. The front bumpers were tucked the hood was lowered and flipped with a reverse hinge. The body was finished off with Dupont BMW Laguna Seca Blue with a white top and coated with House of Kolors flat clear with patina and graphics painted by Greg Dahl of Mooresville. Inside is relatively stock with a ’56 Chevy repop 15″ steering wheel and radio delete dash.

Thanks Mike Slade for bringing us this bit. Hope y’all dig it as much as we do.
