When things go fast they sometimes break. And when they break there are some pretty major consequences. Such is the case with a door slammer in a quiet shop in Fullerton. Meet Lenords Custom Fabrication. As a master fabricator he fixes many racecars who’s drivers get into particularly sticky situations.
He builds cars too.
Today in his shop there were six cars getting his special attention. Eight if you count the fiberglass vette body hanging from the ceiling or the Topolino leaning up against the wall. He mostly works alone and has a handful of friends at the ready to give him a hand when needed.
I like Lenord. My fellow Merciful, Don Chambers, said I should meet him. He helped Don with some of the custom touches on his 55 Nomad (last photo in the gallery). From our afternoon together, I found Leonard to be a quiet, thoughtful man who is passionate about his work. He enjoys creating not only unique works in metal, but also strong and safe vehicles, which the driver can feel confident in taking “all-the-way”.
I would recommend his shop to build a chassis, be it for a dragster, pro-touring or simple street cruiser. The red chassis in the photos is ready for him to build custom stainless coolant tubing. The Chevy truck cab is getting rounded corners and one-piece glass in the doors. The frame on the table is getting some finishing touches before adding the VW notchback body to it.
His website is a virtual who’s who in drag racing. He has won a Best Engineering Award from the NHRA with the Krause and Noyes dragster. If you can picture it they can build it. From simple modifications to a complete vehicle. His experience runs the distance from a 1918 Hudson to a modern pro-stock.
