Reflections of Kandy and Metalflake spotlight the dancers in the streets of downtown Culver City for the 9th Annual Cruisin’ Back to the Fifties Culver City Car Show.
I’m not sure why George Barris’ name is on the show. We were expecting to see a whole lineup of famous cars by Barris Kustom City. From what we saw there were more Chopit Kustoms there than Barris cars.
My brother Nick drove his ’62 Chevy Truck down to So Cal to visit for the weekend, so we hit a bunch of shows on Saturday. We rolled up the 405 in his truck with the Shocker Cooler in the back. A debut of carshows for the cooler and it was a hit!
It was a great show, our buddy Don was there with his ultra-custom ’55 Nomad, Batman and Robin were there with the original Batmobile, a cacklefest and regular low-passes by the local ghetto-bird, err, Police Helicopter. Custom cars of all types, from Rats to Streetrods andeven a severly shortened VW Bug. Why? A favorite was a rear engine’d ’57 that looks like it was a sedan then a wagon rear top grafted on. Looks like it is sponsored by Mattel Hot Wheels.
There were a truck full of awards custom made from velocity stacks and spark plugs. The Angel City Roller Derby girls got a photo-op with the Shocker Cooler. We saw our friend Tim Hunter shooting Josi Kat at the show. Looks like everyone had a great time. BTW, Don won Best Tri-Five. Congrats Don!
