ArtMartyr Presents: ArtGirl

I have known Linda now for geez, it has to be 20 years or more. As a rep for a top printing company, I would rely on Linda for guidance and expertise through the printing process for many of my design clients. She was also a big supporter of the AIGA/OC (American Institute of Graphic Artists/ Orange County).

Recently though, I learned of her artwork. Interesting what you learn about your friends when social media comes along. One look and I was hooked. Her found-object assemblages are a sight to behold. The layering, the textures, and the stories. Each one of her dozens of pieces have a unique and fascinating story not only of parts of ArtGirls life, but the viewer takes on their own story within the work.

When building a piece, she is able to recognize if she is trying too hard. The story must tell itself as she builds on it. If she has to force a narrative, she realizes the authenticity is lost. And the pieces go back to their respective drawers, shelves or boxes.

She shares photos of her “ArtGirl WorldHeadquarters” on her website where you see stacks of little drawers, boxes, cans filled with “smalls” that become the brush-strokes of these magnificent works. Of course here at Blacktop we dig seeing new life on toy cars, trains and other modes of transpo.

Please take a moment and visit ArtGirl’s website [ArtGirl2.com] and dig into her work like we did.
