We are honored to be included in the recent season of Garage Dreams on MotorTrend+. See the story behind Blacktop Magazine as father/son duo Tony and Billy talk about working together in the garage on their 1956 Ford Fairlane Club Sedan “Riff-Raff”. We were featured on Season 2 episode 4.
Garage Dreams is a half hour show featuring 4 vignettes of petrol heads sharing their passion. If you don’t have MotorTrendTV, you can also watch with Motor Trend on Demand.
The first season of Garage Dreams aired on Velocity Network in 2017. It was one of my favorite shows. I must have watched each episode a half a dozen times. Such inspiring stories, just the thing to relax to with a cold one after a long day. I mentioned on Facebook how much I liked the show. When it was green lit for a second season and on Motor Trend TV, the producer called on me to help them find talent. It was in the middle of the pandemic and they couldn’t travel here from Australia. I gave him about a dozen names of people here in Southern California.
Surprised when he caught up to our story and said he’d like to feature us in one of the episodes. We are truly honored to share our story with all the MotorTrend TV viewers.
In this still with Hilda in the car with us, she was fixated on the drone they had flying around shooting the overhead shots. We were sitting in the Hart Park parking lot which is in the Santa Ana Riverbed (mostly dry) as they shot this scene.
They asked me about my passion and the car. I shared how the car is to drive both as a physical reality and spiritually as it brings back all the fun times working on it with my friends and Billy.

Billy rolled up to tell a bit about working in the garage with his “Pops”. His story is so inspiring. This kid has gone through so many hardships from a head injury at 8 years old, paralyzing truck accident at 18, and not mentioned in the show but in 2010 he developed MRSA from a pressure wound due to the paralysis.
