The ‘66/’67 Fairlane GT’s have always been a big favorite of mine. I still have a 1:24 scale model I built as a kid sittin’ in my garage.

This car started out as a numbers matching 390 GT when Jim Simpson got a hold of it. His buddies Dickie and Mat Dills helped out for the 12 months it took to build it up to this massive 427 R-Code using as much of the original GT parts as possible and upgraded to R-Code or better specs.

The engine was a Holman/Moody 427 that was stroked out to 454ci using a 428 CJ crank, forged pistons H/M Camshaft, Holley BJ/BK 2x4bbl set up nto a tunnel wedge intake manifold. Exhaust is expelled through custom x-pipe crossover and Flowmaster mufflers. A top-loader 4-speed manipulated by a Hurst Competition plus shifter links to a 3.91 geared limited slip differential. All that is suspended on leaf springs with KYB shocks. Out front featured Eaton Detroit Coil-over springs and 1″ Heavy Duty sway bar, Scott Drake lower control arms. 15×7 Styled Steel Wheels with American Classics Redline tires finish off the drivetrain.

The vinyl top and nicely appointed interior give this street beast a touch of class. The car definitely has that sleeper look until you see the Fairlane R-Style fiberglass hood.

It is nice to hear that this car is a dream to drive on the blacktop.  I know it sure would be my dream…
