When Muscle Car Collector and Construction Mogul Tim Miller was looking for a product to keep his vast collection of GTO’s and other American Iron in peak surface protection and appearance he was sadly disappointed. Not one to give up, he enlisted the help of former Dupont chemist to create a series of formulas to protect and shine his valuable sheet metal. The result was “Surf City Garage” a great smelling and easy to use line of products which we all have seen by now.

I met Tim several years ago when I was the Art Director at Classic Industries. His local, Huntington Beach, California company was newly formed and one day, a Tom Van Allen and I decided to “drop in” during our lunch break. We were surprised that Tim took the time to show us around and we returned with our jaws dropped in wonder at the cars and memorabilia he has collected.

That was about 5 years ago.

Today I had the opportunity for another private tour. Cadillac Kings of OC had arranged a tour with Carrie Piscotty, Operations and Corporate Branding at SCG Brands. They had recently launched the Paradise Road brand of products at the SEMA Show. From all accounts the size of the collection has grown a bit on the past 5 years. Tim shared that he finds cars he likes, especially GTO’s, and he and his wife then plan their vacation to fly to where the car is, and drive it as far as they can home. Sometimes they make it, sometimes they have to have it transported from some spot along America’s ribbon of Blacktop. Sounds like an adventurous time to me.

By the way, I have to give a big applause to the Surf City brand. There are dozens if not hundreds of car care products out there and to jump into that arena takes big guts. But not for failure, these products are top knotch. I especially like the “Killer Chrome” metal polish. It is the best chrome and aluminum cleaner and polish I have EVER USED.

What I also like about their products is that they smell nice. I asked Tim about that and he said that when an enthusiast is cleaning their car, it’s a special time. They are taking pride in their car and why should that experience be diminished with harsh smells. They formulate each product to have a pleasant “Surf City” scent.

I mentioned earlier that they launched Paradise Road products. These are specially formulated products for the average consumer for their daily driver car care needs. Where Surf City Garage are highly detailed components for collector cars and special finishes what SCG refers to “Enthusiast Grade”.
