Sunday Drive to the Petersen

Today we take a drive over to the Petersen Automobile Museum. Here are several of the exhibits ending with a really creative installation.

We start off with “Best in Low” an exhibit of legendary lowrider icons of the street and show. From laid-out Impala’s to radically styled Schwinn’s the display is a spectacle of metalflake, kandy and etched chrome.

Then we head upstairs to the top floor to see Hollywood Customs, a timeline of tires exhibit, but, I can’t help but dig the weird and whacky 3-wheelers and outrageous concept cars.

Scoot down to the second floor at the Bruce Meyer Family Gallery is Splendor and Speed; Treasures of the Petersen Collection featuring fine coach-built cars.

Can you hear that? There is a rumbling coming from underneath the museum. Yep, the Vault is calling us down the elevator to explore the vast caverns of cars getting ready to be displayed next in the galleries above. Here we find cool historic hot rods, customs, concepts, race cars and more.

Then we go back up to the first floor and check out the “Cars are Beautiful: Mr Brainwash @ The Petersen an art history collection with cars in the mix. We see a painting of “Whistler’s Mother” as she cruises down the boulevard instead of a rocking chair. A huge Rubik’s Cube made with colorful hot wheels and a garage display reminiscent of a good pick finding rusty gold. Big shout out to Ron Cambra and Cambra Speed Shop for the tour as we got to tag along with his crew.
