The Kustom Kemps Do It Again!
The Kustom Kemps Of America Leadsled Spectacular is just that, Spectacular.
Every year I attempt to make it down to Oakdale Park in Salina Kansas for this huge event. I’ve made so many friends over the years since attending my first event back in 2010 and who I have managed to stay in touch to cover the distances between us through Facebook. I have met some awesome Kustom builders, like Bo Huff, George Barris, Voodoo Larry, Gene Winfield, as well as many fellow photographers from the area as well as from afar.
Its not just a huge car show anymore, Its a family reunion that I feel grows more and more every year as I have the opportunity to attend, always with an opportunity to meet celebrities along the way. In my eyes the real celebrities are all the cool Kustom builders, and the everyday joe’s turning wrenches in the garage on late week nights working their 9-5 jobs. They all come together with a great common interest and appreciating one another’s hard work and just hanging out an event and sharing legendary stories of where the cars came from or where their heading. Just like their travels along the way while attending the event.
The party just doesn’t stop there. If you want the full experience, sit down and watch the drag what ya brung drag races, it will set you back to an era where a lot of this all started from, or head out to East Crawford St and watch all the cars of era’s gone by as the cars cruise the main streets of Salina Kansas.
Honestly I couldn’t whip my head around fast enough to get a glance out what rumbled by me in the other lane. This is truly a one of a kind event, and you really have to spend the weekend down there to take it all then, The cars make it a hell of a show, and the people attending, involved make it just that more of an event.
If you get the opportunity to go some time, take the time, meet some new people and you won’t be disappointed.
