It was about a year ago when the folks at Rod Shows (promoters of the Grand National Roadster Show and others) called on Ron Cambra and some friends about a special exhibit for the 2023 Grand National Roadster Show (GNRS). As many of you may know, Building 9 at the Fairplex is reserved for special theme events each year at GNRS. Last year it was devoted to custom Volkswagens, and this year “Keep On Truckin'” was the theme. Presented by LMC Truck and Classic Truck Performance Magazine the building showcased custom and restored trucks from 1948 to 1998. F-100’s, C/10’s, OBS’s, Mini Trucks and Vans were on display. Well known trucks such as Stacy David’s Copperhead ’67 C/10, Overhaulin’s ’56 F-100, The Lone Ranger, Red Rocker, Bell Tech Splash, Sub Lo, Little Hawaiian and Last Look. Boogie vans like Ron Cambra’s Octopus’ Garden and his newly restored Deathwish headed up the line of Boogie vans including Brian O’hop’s Penny Arcade, Jeff Style’s Boogie Van, Van Go and more were showcased along the wall. We would have rather seen the vans in the middle so you can see the murals on the other sides.
More custom trucks and vans were parked in the grounds around the building on Saturday and some on Sunday. All in all it was a great display that well represented that ol’ Rob’t. Crumb blacklight poster we all had: “Keep On Truckin'”.
