I have known Rich for quite a few years now. He is one of those quiet guys that are always there to help, lend a hand and encourage you on what ever project you are working on. Like anyone who has been around as long as Rich, I seem to always learn something new everytime we meet. Today is no different.
We are at the 24th running of Cruisin’ For A Cure. On the 4th Saturday of each month the Orange County Fairgrounds is filled with over 2500 cars of all years, makes and models and over 10,000 spectators. It is the largest one-day charity car show in the country. And the charity. Cruisin’ for a Cure was started in 1999 by Debbie Baker as a means to help promote Prostate Cancer Awareness and a place for men to get tested for Prostate Cancer. They have tested well over 15,000 men and saved more than 4,000+ men who would have never known they had a suspicious lump or prostate cancer. As Debbie tells the men, “you take care of your cars, you need to take care of your body. “ We are very grateful to continue offering our free prostate screening to men 40 years and older.
Rich is a survivor. That I knew. As well as several of his fellow members of Pickups Limited. The club has consistently donated a significant amount to Cruisin’ For A Cure from proceeds of their two annual events.
One thing I didn’t realize about Rich was the vast amount of vehicles he has. This calls for a follow up article with details of each of the cars and the stories behind them. I especially want to hear about that ’68 Mustang California Special.
