The 57th Annual Early Times Picnic 2023
I have been going to this event for nearly a dozen years and it never disappoints. Not a regular car show by any means.
The Early Times Picnic has been held at the Compton Hunting and Fishing Club for 50 years. In the early days the park was surrounded by farmland. Today it backs up against the 710 freeway just north east of the 91 frwy and surrounded by industrial parking yards.
The event is fairly simple. An opportunity for like-minded hot rodders to hang out and share stories. The club offers a reasonable taco lunch, raffle and plenty of chill. The raffle is simple enough, you purchase tickets and drop tickets in buckets in front of the prize you would like to win. There is a large grass area where we picnic. Note to self: Bring my lawn darts for next year.
Something I learned this time, there is an actual gun range on the property. You wouldn’t know it except for the big steel locked door that leads beneath the picnic tables and apparently the gun range extends along under the main grass field.
All in all it is a great show and I look forward to next year!
