Today Pinky meets with a really cool tattoo artist who uses the stick and poke method of tattooing. Intricate, fine line tattoos, by dipping a needle in ink and gently pricking your skin with the needle tip.
Here’s Kat Dukes’ introduction on InstGram @Steel_Honey
Hey there, I’m Kat Dukes! I live in Oceanside CA & do handpoked tattoos out of a private studio with some rad ladies. I’m self taught & have built my business from house calls, to the Vandio (Van Studio) & tattooing out of my renovated school bus.
I was born in Canada, but grew up in North Carolina, which will explain the reruns of folk tunes while you get tattooed. Middle/High school was spent near Seattle where I found my love for heavy metal & exploring the outdoors.
Other interests include motorcycle building, guitar playing, horror movie watching, live music going & general desert dwelling.
I couldn’t be more grateful for what you guys have helped me create. My support system is strong, my drive is high & my love for y’all is unmatched. Thanks for making this life possible
I just found out that Kat also does Creamation Ash Tattooing, in honoring loved ones through her work by using cremated ashes in tattoo ink to create a unique memorial. The process is much like a traditional tattoo applied through conventional methods. It is the ink that is special. In these cremation tattoos, a small amount of cremation ash is infused into regular tattoo ink, creating a very emotional and powerful experience. Here’s a link to a “Body to Burial” podcast where we learn more about the methods and how Kat creates a space for her clients to grieve and heal.
