Old and New Share the Grass

A bunch of baggers. That’s what we noticed at this year’s David Mann Chopperfest. Certainly there were some cool chops and bobs, but we noticed a bunch more twinkie bags this year over last. There were some stand-out bikes and a great little swap-meet and more artists in the gallery building. Speaking of which, they had David’s last painting on display. An unfinished small piece that was pretty cool to see. Other than that there weren’t a whole lot of David Mann works there. In-fact we saw more of his work at the recent Easyriders bike tour than there were at his namesake chopperfest.
Above are photos fromt he bike show on the main lawn. Quite the variety of bikes.
Here are some random photos from the show. We really dig the laid-back atmosphere of this show. Not as big as say, Born Free, but really cool to just spend the day near the coast and catch up with old friends.
We ran into our friends Joel and Mary Klass [vintage klass] who, if you haven’t stopped by their booth of vintage leathers, helmets and cool-stuff, you have to make it sometime. They are at all the key bike events including Toppings’ So Cal Cycle Swap and Show in Long Beach each month. We also stopped off at Bomonsters booth. This is the second time we caught up to him in Ventura. You will usually find his cool scratch-board art t-shirts and collectibles at most hot rod and custom shows. We saw Duane Ballard there as well as John “Krylon John” Gilbert displaying his heavy reverse painted glass panels.
All in all a great show once again and just neat to hang out with a bunch of old iron. Until next year, well at least there’s Born Free coming up soon.
