Doug DoRr’s 1947 Chevy Fleetline Kustom
Look deep. Really deep. Past the satin maroon paint. Look deeper still into the sheetmetal. Can you see it? Look past the custom fenders, skirts, side-pipes, seriously chopped top and re-worked deck lid. Look through the custom grill and headlights. Can you see the post war Chevy steel? Most people see a classic Merc first, but nope. This car started as a 1947 Chevy Fleetline. This timeless custom was built in the early 1980’s by George Dorr. It was sold and moved all over the country and apparently lost.
Kustom Kulture Artist extraordinaire and George’s son Doug DoRr found the car after it was sitting for 30 years in a barn in Pennsylvania. He brought it home, cleaned it up, threw a quick paint job on it and basically got it in good running condition.
George chopped the top some 7″, took 12″ out of the trunk lid and re-worked the curves. Used ’54 Ford headlight rings, ’49 Plymouth bumpers, ’57 Packard tail lights, ’55 Desoto grille (with added “teeth”), ’70 Mercury hubcaps, custom fenders, side-pipes, rear quarters and all this kustom goodness sits on a musclecar chassis. A ’73 Camaro gave up it’s chassis and interior (however tucked and rolled). The car had a blower on it when George drove the poop out of it, but now it is much more wild so Doug can cruise with his family all over Southern California.
We dig it and thought you would too. Here is a little feature we did of Doug and his artwork a few years ago. CLICK HERE
