Historical Society of Long Beach Presents:
CHROME! Cruisin’ Clubs and Drag Strips
The Historical Society of Long Beach came by our Sunday Morning get-together one week.
Director Julie Bartolotto and Steffie Hands stopped by to tell us (Mercifuls Car Club) about an exhibit they are putting together called Chrome! Cruisin’, Car Clubs and Drag Strips.
The exhibit follows the popular Pearl Harbor show and runs from July 2018 to March 08, 2019 at their gallery in the heart of Bixby Knolls at 4260 Atlantic Avenue.
They invited local car clubs and auto enthusiasts all over the southland to help gather pieces on loan to exhibit in their gallery space. I grabbed some kool old stuff I had in the garage including my vintage neon V-8 sign.
Members from Early Times, Cavaliers, Sultans, Renegades, and more shared photos, jackets, plaques and other memorabilia. There is a wall of vintage dealerships, drive-in restaurants, and a whole bunch of cool ephemera from Lions Drag Strip.
The nine-month exhibit kicked off with an opening celebration which included a car show featuring cars from the exhibiting clubs at nearby (and recently re-opened) George’s 50’s Diner. More cars filled the street and parking lots adjacent to the gallery.
Other special events are planned for the exhibit throughout the year including a day with Mid-Century Historian and Storyteller Charles Phoenix and a Legends of Lions Day. I invite you all to come see the exhibit and share your thoughts on your favorite social site with #HSLBChrome
Visit during their public hours:
