Cars and Clippers Car Show

Recently I went to a fundraiser for St. Baldrick’s Foundation. This year the fundraiser event featured a car show for the first time. The show was hosted by the Long Beach Sultan’s Car Club. Over 100 cars showed up on the grass at the Long Beach Police Officers Park. As you will see there were some incredible rides expected at a show hosted by the Sultans. We recently featured one car from the show in our Motor Minute series of Rick and his tribute 1970 El Camino.

I ran into an old friend Vic Martinez. He and Kevin Rheault ran the Long Beach Car Show to help kids with cancer. Appropriate to see him at this show benefiting the St. Baldrick’s Foundation whose mission is: “The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a volunteer and donor powered charity committed to supporting the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long and healthy lives.

Vic was sharing his nephew’s ’54 Mercury that was just finished. Satin bronze paint with a crazy painted top. Very cool car. For some reason, when I was walking around I could swear the rear bumper said Desoto on it. But no, it is a Mercury.

The show is called Cars and Clippers because one of the main sources of fundraising are head-shaving events. They had barber chair set up to trim your head down to the nubs to show your support for the cause. Well, I just had my hair cut, at a show last weekend, and although a great cause, non of my Mercifuls car club buddies opted for the buzz. Mercifuls members Kevin Studer and his ’37 Ford coupe won the In The Weeds trophy and Jerry Berry won Best Original with his ’80’s era Cop Car.

All in all a great time and the show ended around 2pm so a good time to get other things done in the day. Enjoy the photos…
