The crew at Flying Deuces did it again with another hit event for the city of Brea, California. The Brea Holiday Car Show filled the streets of downtown Brea with a wide variety of classic and collector cars.
Always a great event for the family, which leads me to a Public Service Announcement:
PARENTS, if you are not accustomed to going to car shows, PLEASE watch and train your kids not to touch the vehicles. There was one family with three young boys all excited to be there (you’d think they never left the house) and their little hands were all over a nicely displayed Cobra. I was shocked when I saw what was going on and just before one of the boys took his Hot Wheels car to roll on the fender, the dad quickly grabbed him. Although no punishment for touching the vehicles. I know I am preaching to the choir here at BlacktopMagazine, but please tell your grown kids, nieces, nephews, grand-kids etc to teach their kids and friends about the “etiquette” of car show enjoyment.
I got a chance to talk to my friend Chris about her really neat yellow and white ’56 Nash Metropolitan. Out of a whim, she bought the car as she was nearing retirement and wanted something to do. Not a car person at all, she grabbed on to the car, found a local chapter of the Metropolitan Club and learned about what she got and what she needed to restore it. And it is a beauty. I learned so much after talking for about 20 minutes. One thing was that in order to get in the trunk, there was a lock on the middle of the top of the back seat. No trunk lid from outside the vehicle, you had to squeeze in and retrieve anything you had in the trunk from behind the back seat. WHACKY I tell you! But a fun car and she has made a bunch of new friends with it. Go get em Chris!
Cambra Speed Shop was there as one of the title sponsors. They brought out Mark’s ’56 Ford F100 that they recently finished the final assembly on. Also in their booth was a project they did a while back, Todd’s Grey on Grey ’55 Chevy. Talking with Todd about the car, he wanted to paint it battleship grey after retiring from the Navy as a Commander, but his wife said NO WAY! So together they poured over different grey’s that would showcase the car as a cool resto-mod.
The show benefitted the California Highway Patrol’s CHiP’s for Kids Toy Drive and was produced in together with Flying Deuces and the Brea Downtown Owners Association. Be sure to see more at: BreaHolidayCarShow.com.
