A Pandemic won’t keep us down!
We had to shut down our monthly car show at the Historic Main Street Car Show in Garden Grove, so we thought we’d take it virual. From April 15-29, 2020 we held a Facebook Event and had hundreds of entries and even more engagement. The idea is to have three prizes for the top three posts with the most engagements. Some of the winners made multiple posts, but we took the total of of the highest engagement.
The winners each received a box full of goodies from our sponsors. Coffee cup, playing cards, pen light and stylus, License plate frame, 4 t-shirts, a cap, a bunch of stickers, pack of Blacktop Trading Cards and a Blacktop Magazine.
Thank you: Cambra Speed Shop, Reids Rod Parts, AMSOIL, JET Performance, MYCHANIC, and The Wheelsmith.
Congratulations to our winners!
Rob Cleland owner of Xtreme Xhaust and Performance in Fairfield, California. Cleland was leading it from day one when he started sharing the photo of him doing a wheelie in the “Boogie Van” a 1969 Chevy G-10 Handyvan. After the contest he shared a video that our friend Jersey shot of him doing a nice smokey burnout leaving the SEMA Show. Instructed by an LVPD officer, but nearly kicked out for life from SEMA for the stunt.
Rob found the van sitting in a driveway and, on a whim, left a note on the windshield to the owner to contact him should he ever decide to get rid of it. That same day, the owner of the van called and said he’d been thinking of selling the van and the rest is history. Boogy Van boasts 852hp with a 496BBC and an 871 Weiand Blower. All of this horsepower is backed up with a manual valve body TH400 and a Ford 9-inch rear end. For fun, Rob added two separate braking systems–one for stopping and one for burnouts, donuts and wheelies! To say this van is overkill would be an understatement.
Aaron Williams was found in the same Early Chevy Van Group on Facebook and he shared his Fat Ass Hot Rod Racing early Chevy Van with literally thousands of people. A super clean red and white ’65 from the Chicagoland area. His van runs a 406ci SBC with lightweight balanced internals. Trans is a built Ford 3-speed toploader with a Jeep bellhousing to connect it. He burns E85 fuel cause it’s cheap and with danm near 13.1 compression he’d rather support our corn farmers than pay $10/gallon to cruise. He built the engine and all the body and paint in a 1.5 year build.
Christophe Mackowiak is a builder of traditional American Hot Rods and Customs in Normandy France. Since he was a kid he loved mechanics and bodywork. His grandfather was a boilermaker and made racing motorcycle frames. He built this car in 6 years on weekends, holidays and vacations.
Each year he holds an event at his garage McCoy’s Speed Shop where enthusiasts exchange and meet during the three days of madness. With rockabilly bands, pinup contests, and vendors.
