Local youth continues to race his way up the competition ladder.
At 16 years old, the La Quinta High School Honors Junior, Andre Prescott, is one of the youngest drivers in his sport, topping speeds of 130 mph, piloting a 2900lb, 600hp, stock car. Cutting his teeth on the local short tracks, at the age of 13, Andre began competing at Orange Show Speedway, located in San Bernardino, in the Super Late model division for two seasons. At the age of 15, Andre, being the youngest competitor in the NASCAR, Whelen all American series, Super Late model division, finished his first season, seventh in the championship point standings at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale, which is one of the finest ½ mile tracks in the country, entertaining the competition of high level teams.
Andre began his racing career at the age of five in a Karting division, progressing to the competition of the Bandolero cars, and then to the Legend cars. Andre then made the jump, at the age of 13, to the full size cars, showing great maturity behind the wheel all these years. He and his team are ready for the next step. Our next step will be the SRL South West Tour Series, which is a very competitive series that has top teams competing from several states for the 2012 season. The team will travel to, and race on several different types of oval, asphalt tracks around the southwest. Ranging from short bullring type tracks, to high banked, high speed tracks, this will be a great challenge for the young honors student and his team. Andre will perfect his skills to hopefully take him to the higher professional levels of NASCAR and its top series. Not only will the challenges be on the track, but in the classroom. While facing the challenges of funding his racing program, Andre will balance professional racing while keeping his honor roll status in tack.
