When you spend your days in the field watching the lemons and avocados grow, you get to wondering.
For Jerry Friedrich, that wondering got him into racing and now deep in hot rodding. We took a jaunt off the Ventura Highway and into the foothills of Santa Paula to see an incredible workshop barn and then over to the farmhouse to see a beautiful display of racecars, paraphenaglia and even a nice roadster too.
Jerry Friedrich raced SCCA road races from the 1970’s through the late 1990’s all up and down the west. He kept a few of his racecars especially the Ford Cosworth 4-cylinder jobs that just ooze cool. From Can Am to open wheel, his cars are beautiful examples of his past. They cars are kept in 4-car garage connected to his farmhouse.
Today he is not racing so much, but building and enjoying traditional style hot rods. When we visited he was in the middle of final assembly on a nice chopped ’32 Convertible, complete with door glass. More projects in the works. A three window coupe and a roadster below it are waiting to get the wrench.
