What promised to be a soggy Saturday did not scare away the nearly 200 trucks, cars and dailies for the 16th Annual Jeff’s Fun Run hosted by Pickups Limited OC.
This year stops included Anaheim Rod & Custom, Blower Drive Services, CTM Performance, Old Anvil Speed Shop, Modern Performance Classics, Detail Garage of Orange, CW Moss, Bobby G’s Westside Garage and ended up at Calvary Church in Santa Ana.
The skies opened up to a pretty steady rain about halfway through the run and understandably some of the customs, roadsters, and other rods made a run for a dry garage. Then final spot at Calvary Church was soaking wet, but the incredible raffle still went on with drivers winning 50/50 cash prize and tons of cool GUY STUFF on the prize table.
The event celebrates the life of Jeff Hornsby who was a decades long member of Pickups Limited. His brother Skip described Jeff as having a “strong personality” and quickly became President of the club. He organized members to join in events and runs as their second club meeting each month. The club grew to a roster of 40+ members.
In 1964 he spent 4 years in the Navy and reflected on those years of camaraderie with fond memories and sadness with his fellow soldiers maimed and scarred for life if not worse. After his service he established his own electrical contracting business and an active member of the Masonic Gateway Lodge 339. In 2007 he received the Hiram award.
Jeff’s Mattel inspired ’56 Ford F100 was the most photographed truck of the club. Jeff coined and held steadfast to the club motto which was to have FUN. For the past 16 years Pickups Limited hosts the Jeff’s Fun Run in his honor around the anniversary of Jeff’s passing in January, and all proceeds go to cancer research.
