Why Would They Install A JET Performance Powr-Flo Throttle Body?

I get so excited when I see the boys get the ramp and set it up. I know it’s time for a ride. We usually ride in Billy’s Blacktop Baller a 2007 HEMI RAM pickup because it is a 4-door and I have plenty of room in the back.

Lately too, they have been doing quite a bit of work on the truck to make it really special. In the past year they installed my favorite, seat covers from Ruff Tuff! Maybe, being a doggie, I dig the name, but they are comfy too! Not too long ago, they installed an Xcelerator from JET Performance. This took away the lag when Billy mashes on the go-pedal and it gets off the line nicely. A JET Chip boosts the performance, a set of Accel coils creates a consistent spark and with a cold-air box from AIRAID and custom exhaust from Gibson, the big truck’s 5.7 Hemi really hauls.

You’d think that would be good enough. Yeah, not so with these hot rodders. Once again they called on JET to see what’s new. Dan Nicholas reminded them of what they saw at the recent SEMA Show. The new Powr-Flo Throttle Body! With it’s modified air inlet it is set to improve throttle response some more and airflow. The fluted design forces the air to spin into the intake mixing it up with a natural convection force when it is swallowed by the intake manifold. The CNC machined aircraft quality aluminum casting is made in the U.S.A. and a direct replacement of the stock throttle body.

The installation is easy enough. Especially on this truck since they installed the cold air intake, the Throttle Body is fairly easy to get to. Since Billy can’t climb up and kneel on the bumper his pops Tony jumped up there and helped with the installation. Billy disconnected the negative cable on the battery and Tony used my new blanket as a pad for kneeling on the bumper.

After loosening the hose clamps on the cold air box tube and the rubber hose to the stock throttle body, it was only removing the wiring clip at the top of the throttle body. They place a piece of cardboard down on top of the engine to protect any “falling” objects. Four bolts held in the stock piece. They were fairly long, about 3 inches and with fine threads holding the throttle body tight to the plastic intake manifold. “Note”: Be careful when re-installing the bolts to not strip the plastic intake manifold. That would suck. Literally.

With the stock throttle body off, Billy inspects it to note the differences. He notices the inside of the body has a pretty dark color burned in. This tells him that they are getting a bit of back pressure coming in from the intake.

The installation went fairly quickly, Tony was being careful not strip the threads on the plastic intake manifold. Snap the cold air intake back in and plug in the electronics and they were ready to go. Billy re-installed the negative cable. Tony jumped in the cab to calibrate the new Throttle Body following the simple directions that came in the box. The optimum performance pre-installed calibrated electronics made it easy. Start the truck and it purred like a baby!

I jumped in the back and we went for a test ride. Boy! I had to hold on with all four paws as I got thrown back in my seat. No sitting on the center console anymore. Good thing they buckle me in when we go for a ride! We got back just in time for my afternoon stroll around the block.
