Keep Your Cool

Solar Guard by Urban Transit

It hit me when I first opened the door. Sure it’s been a hot day and a hot week even. I pulled the door handle out and a soft wave of hot air passes by me. I slide into the seat and the air is still. Suddenly I feel a sharp pain. It takes a moment for my brain to register where exactly this pain is coming from. Then it is too late. My hand is at full grip on top of the steering wheel to use as a force to pull my butt onto the seat. If the steering wheel wasn’t grey abs, I would think it was a branding iron. I see those heat waves usually found on a straight blacktop out in the desert, but no, they are coming from the dash in front of me.

After I turn the key, I immediately turn on the AC and roll down the windows. My single cab 2005 HEMI Ram truck is a fishbowl with the sweeping windshield and large rear window. The glass acts as a magnifier on the plastic dash. In-fact when cleaning it one day the small grate in the middle of the top of the dash broke half its fins. Time to protect this 100K miler. I plan on keeping it for a while. With the JET Performance Throttle Body, Spacer and chip, AEM Cold Air System, ACCEL coils and E3 plugs pushing through 3″ Magnaflow cat back system it is a snappy pick up.

It took a while for the cab to finally cool down and I can think straight again. I can’t do this anymore. I gotta get something to help this blast furnace. My truck has to be as comfortable inside as it is fun driving it. So I did some digging. Ends up, that Urban Transit has a couple of nice solutions. The SolarGuard GO is an interior sun shade. Like others out there with two wire hoops to open up from your dash to the visors. A cool feature is the velcro slit at the top to go around your mirror. It is super easy to use and put away in it’s handy drawstring bag.

The SolarGuard Deluxe Windshield Cover goes on the outside of your vehicle. I like this because it keeps all the heat out. Shading it BEFORE it hits the windshield. It is a bit more complicated to use, but I am sure I will get used to it and enjoy a cool cab when I am at photoshoot, or hunting some cool old stuff.
