Cruisin’ The Bridge of No Name

Mercifuls So Cal were invited to take part of the celebration of the replacement of the Gerald Desmond Bridge going over the entry to the port of Long Beach. The original bridge was built in 1968 as an arch style bridge that carries 5 lanes of Ocean Blvd. from Interstate 710 across the Back Channel to Terminal Island.

The new cable stayed bridge spans a deck rising 205 feet above the water. The bridge features additional traffic lanes, a higher clearance to accommodate larger cargo ships, and a dedicated bicycle path and pedestrian walkway, including scenic overlooks. With two towers reaching 515 feet into the sky, it is the second-tallest cable-stayed bridge in the United States.
