Chad’s Dads ’40 Ford

A walk-around Fuel Fed Fun Feature of Chad Simpson’s 1940 Ford. It was his father’s racer that Chad and his son brought back to life with the help of Jimmy Shine and a few friends.

I saw this car at the Historic Main Street Garden Grove Friday Night Car Show. It has been there before, but this time it really caught my eye. I had to hear the story. Word has it Chad was in the bar at the famed Elvis themed Mexican restaurant “Azteca”. I found him hanging with some buddies and interrupted him to get the full story.

His dad bought the car in 1953 from the House of Chrome. He was racing a ’32 roadster with Russetta Timing Association in the 50’s and decided that after racing the deuce, he’d put the flatty in this custom. Family obligations came up and 60 years later his son Chad and Chad’s son started cleaning up all the cars and parts dad had accumulated and saw the 40 as the easiest project to get on the blacktop.

They took it over to Jimmy Shines shop and a few months later it is on the road and rolling as you see it. Jimmy took care to keep it as original as possible with the carson top, naugahyde seats and the flatty with Evans heads and Fenton dual carb intake.

He won the Blacktop Pick trophy built by Rockhead Rod Sexton in January 2023.
